Your Health Online | Breaking Habits through Meditation
We all have quirks we wished we never had. After all, have you ever met a perfect person? Chances are, no one has. We all have something in us we would like to break. Sometimes, our habits stop us from becoming the best we truly can be. The more we try to remove the habit, the more stressed we become. And the more stressed we are, the more that habit persists. It’s a cruel cycle that we all need to get out of. If these habits hinder us from becoming better people, then we must do something about it now before it’s too late. Life is too short to be spent on regret. We need to make the most of what we have, and the only way to do this is to be the best of who we are.
The answer to our dilemma is the simple act of meditation. This simple meditation will help us look at our problems with an objective eye. When we see things with clarity, we will be able to see what we could have missed and how we could better maneuver our way to the end goal. Of course, it also helps to focus on only one behavior at a time. Breaking a habit is difficult enough, and if we try to do everything all at once, the task may be impossible. We need to give attention clearly on the one we choose to work on. For clarity, we could write down a detailed plan of action.
As each habit is overcome, we need to find a way to celebrate. Of course we will encounter difficulties along the way, but we need to find ways to clear the path. Instead of giving up, we need to see if there is a way around it. There are always options available, but we limit ourselves to only one method. Meditation helps a lot in making us see everything in a better light.
To meditate, we need to quiet our inner mind. We need to remove ourselves from the clutter and allow our bodies to relax. A good way to this is to focus on each group of muscles at a time. It might be helpful if we do this from head to foot or the other way around. Of course, if we did prefer another method, it’s also just as fine. The point is, we need to make sure that we have a clear method set during the actual exercise. We need to direct our attention on a body part, and as we inhale, we tighten that one part and loosen as we exhale. We get to learn the most effective way to do it as we practice.
Then, we need to visualize what we want. See ourselves free from that certain habit. We need to create a path and enjoy the experiences we get as we walk through it. We will soon discover that each path offers a unique experience. Though some paths may pose certain dangers, we need to find the ability to traverse the trails in order to choose the one that is best for us.
The path we choose symbolize the decisions we make. This narrowing of choices is caused by our wanting to fine-tune so that we are able to release old habits. For some, it will take great courage, but we need to press forward so that we can really improve our lives.
