The Importance Of Support When You Have Chronic Fatigue

Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis and suspect you have Chronic Fatigue or you have been diagnosed, chances are you’re feeling a myriad of emotions. You may feel frustrated, depressed, overwhelmed, anxious or even angry.

These emotions are normal, however, they may not help you get better. The answer to managing these emotions and dealing with Chronic Fatigue is to get support.

Why Support is Important

Support for Chronic Fatigue comes in different levels which we’ll take a look at in just a minute.

The benefits of support are numerous. When you have emotional support, you can express your emotions in a productive manner, get a hold on them and use them to get better. Emotional support provides you with a positive outlet.

Support can also come in the form of educational support. Therapists, doctors and other people who live with Chronic Fatigue can help you understand what you’re going through, help you find treatment options and help you learn about resources in your area.

Support, both emotional and physical, is an important part of your recovery and treatment.

Chronic Fatigue is a lifelong illness with no cure and without support you may not be able to live your best life possible. However, with support you can regain control of your life and live well.

Types of Support

There are many different types and levels of support. The most immediate type of support is your family and friends.

It’s important to your recovery that your friends and family are supportive of what you’re going through.

They may not be able to help you manage your Chronic Fatigue but having their understanding and support is extremely helpful.

Support From The Medical Community

The second tier of support comes from the medical community. Your doctors, therapists, and counselors are all part of a support group that will help you live your best life.

The people you surround yourself with are your choice. If you’re not happy with a doctor or therapist, find another one.

This is important. You need to feel comfortable with your physicians, you need to be able to communicate freely, and trust your medical advisors.

Support from Other Chronic Fatigue Sufferers

With more than one million people diagnosed in the United States alone there is a huge community of support.

There are online support groups, community support groups and associations all designed to help you live your best life.

Take advantage of these support groups. They’ll help you manage your symptoms with support and honest answers and feedback.

They’ll provide resources and an education about Chronic Fatigue and they’ll help you wade through the emotions and physical complications of Chronic Fatigue.

When you’re suffering from a disease like Chronic Fatigue, the support you find and surround yourself with can make all the difference.

Getting a Proper Diagnosis with Chronic Fatigue

(What To Do If Your Doctor Doesn’t Listen)

Do you think your symptoms match those of Chronic Fatigue? Millions of people around the world suffer from this ailment and have been diagnosed with the illness, but millions more go undiagnosed due to resistance in the medical community, confusion about symptoms, an unwillingness to seek medical help.

And unfortunately, there are some who just don’t believe Chronic Fatigue is a real illness.

If you suspect you have Chronic Fatigue there are several steps you can take to get a proper diagnosis.

#1 Visit your doctor and lay out your symptoms.

Try your best to not get emotional. You’re looking for answers here.

Tell your doctor you suspect you have Chronic Fatigue and hear what they have to say. Now, this is where many people run into trouble for all of the reasons mentioned above.

Some doctors just don’t believe it and others will more readily attribute your symptoms to something else like depression. This leads us to the next step.

#2 Trust your gut.

You know when something is wrong and just because one doctor doesn’t listen doesn’t mean you’re wrong.

Get a second, third, fourth and fifth opinion. And instead of visiting a general practitioner, find doctors who specialize in and understand Chronic Fatigue.

You may be able to find qualified and helpful physicians online at Chronic Fatigue support group websites and information websites.

Chronic Fatigue is a recognized and diagnosed disease by the medical community so there are doctors who will listen.

#3 Keep records.

One significant way to track your symptoms and help a doctor diagnose is to keep records, journal your symptoms.

In addition to tracking your symptoms you want to include foods you’ve eaten, activities you did the day before, sleep records and other issues in your life that may contribute to your symptoms worsening.

This will not only help diagnose you, it will help with your treatment.

#4 Be understanding.

There are no clinical markers that say, “yes, this person has Chronic Fatigue.” That coupled with the fact that symptoms mirror symptoms of many other diseases make diagnosing Chronic Fatigue difficult at best.

Your doctor will be diagnosing you based on your symptoms, their duration and other contributing factors in your life. Understand that this diagnosis isn’t easy.

Doctors like to have cold hard facts and they like to be able to cure, Chronic Fatigue doesn’t meet either of those criteria.

#5 Don’t stop with western medicine.

Even if you do not get a diagnosis right away, there are other treatments that may alleviate your symptoms.

Yoga, moderate and controlled exercise and massage have been shown to help reduce symptoms.

That being said, it’s important to get a diagnosis so you can have access to all treatment options. Don’t give up. Trust your instincts and take care of your body.

Keep looking for help and/or a doctor who will listen to you. It's your life and you don't have to live in constant pain. There are doctors and treatments that can help you.
