Everyone knows that increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables will help with weight loss, but how does one choose the best fruits to focus on? Some fruits are very high in sugar, so they should be eaten with some limitations.

Dried fruits are very convenient to take with you to work or away from home as a handy snack, but the concentration of sugar can be quite high when fruit is dehydrated.

While this type is not necessarily the best fruits for weight loss, they are great for providing quick energy and may help you avoid eating some other less nutritious, high-calorie snack.

Although you should limit the amount of dried fruit you include in your diet, they are high in minerals and vitamins and help reduce cholesterol.

Some fruits that are lower in sugar and carbohydrates include raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Cranberries are also very healthy, but not everyone enjoys eating them unless they are dried and resemble raisins.

Since cranberries are naturally low in sugar, this type of dried fruit is better than most other types.

Citrus fruits are also included on the list of the best fruits for weight loss, because they naturally detoxify the body and cleanse the blood.

This helps promote heart health, improve digestion and help reduce bad cholesterol. The fact that these fruits can improve bowel function results in a healthy form of weight loss.

Fruits that are juicy include the the melons, and the water contained in them provides a feeling of fullness as well as naturally hydrating the body.

This natural form of hydration supports digestion and helps the body excrete toxins.

Fruits with a high fiber content should also be included in the list of the best fruits for weight loss. Apples, oranges and other citrus fruits are high in fiber and keep the digestive tract healthy.

The old saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" does have some validity.

Apples are not only high in fiber, but eating a crisp apple helps clean the teeth, provides vitamin C and gives a feeling of fullness and satisfaction. Most fruits are high in vitamin C, and they also provide other valuable nutrients.

Many people do not think of an avocado as a fruit, but they do fit in that category. One thing about an avocado is that they also provide a generous dose of healthy Omega 3 fats.

This fat helps to increase metabolism and burn fat and calories faster. Bananas are also a good fruit to include in your diet when you want to lose some weight because they are filling and are a better choice to satisfy your appetite than a high sugar treat from a vending machine.

The bottom line is that most fruits are delicious and relatively low in calories so you can treat yourself without destroying your diet.

You can eat a pound or two of strawberries or blueberries and consume fewer calories than most candy bars. I know what my choice would be.
