High Blood Pressure and its Causes

With increasing stress levels and a fast-paced life, many people are suffering from problems that arise due to high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the stress on the walls of the arteries when blood is pumped from the heart. It is usually measured on a scale of millimeters of mercury.

Blood pressure is measured as an average value of systolic and diastolic pressure. Normal systolic pressure has a value of 120 mm Hg or less whereas normal diastolic pressure has a value of 80 mm Hg or less. Any increase in these values suggests that the person has high blood pressure.

When there is an increase in the value of systolic pressure and it becomes greater than 120 mm Hg, the person is said to have high blood pressure. Changing food habits and increasing stress levels are common factors that increase your risk of high blood pressure.

Occurrence of arterial hypertension leads to many health problems which have a long-term effect on the body. A person with high blood pressure usually finds himself in a state of adrenaline rush which usually results in unhealthy tissue growth.

With blood pressure increasing over a period of time and growth of unhealthy tissue, the heart muscle starts to thicken and lose its strength. This may lead to heart attack and other heart related ailments.

A person affected with hypertension requires immediate attention as inappropriate treatment can cause shortening of their lifespan. During the early days of modern medicine high diastolic pressure was considered the most dangerous form of high blood pressure. Now high systolic pressure is also categorized as a serious condition for a person.

The first method for a person to lower their blood pressure is to decrease the stress levels that they are undergoing. A simple way to reduce stress levels is to indulge in exercises and meditation.

Meditation is considered the best option as it enhances the concentration and at the same time provides a complete control over the body, decreasing stress levels. Apart from this, changes in eating habits will also help decrease blood pressure.

Now that you have understood the effects of high blood pressure it is time to carry out a check-up in order to understand the status of your blood pressure. This will help you take the required measures to bring it back under control. Measure your blood pressure regularly and adopt a healthy lifestyle to avoid heart disease.
