You're probably aware that the most noted and primary symptom of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is fatigue. However, many people aren't aware that pain is also a common symptom of this ailment.
If you've recently been diagnosed with CFS, you may not be experiencing too much pain yet, but you should be aware that it can show up.
Here are five ways that many people deal with the pain associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If you are into taking a natural approach to your health, the first three methods can help you without harmful side effects you may get from pain medication.
1. Massage Therapy
There's not many things better than getting a relaxing massage. If you suffer from CFS it will feel even better to you than the relaxation you can achieve.
It can be extremely beneficial in pain management. Massage therapy has been shown to help reduce pain.
In addition to improving circulation, massage therapy can produce a sense of well being and relaxation which can reduce or alleviate pain.
If you want some added benefits trying soaking in a warm tub of water before your massage.
2. Yoga
Yoga is a physical activity, but it is designed to restore energy, not drain it. It also boosts circulation and the immune system.
Gentle yoga in a controlled environment can be a great long term solution to managing chronic pain associated with Chronic Fatigue. It can help you relax and optimize your body’s functions.
Add meditation to your daily yoga practice for extra benefits.
3. Homeopathy and supplementation
Homeopathy and supplementation have been used effectively to treat specific pains and symptoms. For example, devil’s claw and turmeric may be used to treat joint pain and inflammation.
Take great care when using homeopathy and supplementation. Consult an expert to make sure your herbs and remedies do not interact negatively with your other medications.
Especially try herbal remedies for inflammation.
More and more studies are showing that inflammation alone is a leading cause of pain and other ailments.
4. Pain Relievers
Many physicians will prescribe pain relievers to help you manage pain associated with Chronic Fatigue. There are two courses of action here, over the counter pain relievers and prescription pain relievers.
The problem with pain relievers is that your body can become addicted to both types. This means you’ll have headaches and withdrawal symptoms when you’re not taking them. And you’ll have to take more and more to relieve the pain.
Pain relievers are okay to take occasionally, however if you can find other methods to deal with pain associated with Chronic Fatigue, you’re better off in the long run.
Try the methods above before you start using pain meds and see if they will help first.
5. Biofeedback
Biofeedback is the process of becoming aware of your body and learning to manipulate it at will. Just as you can control your breathing, you can control other elements in your body.
Biofeedback has been developed over the past few decades and has proven effective in treating migraines and other chronic pain.
The process uses several testing and evaluation tools to learn to recognize a behavior in your body and to know when you’re having an effect on it.
It’s not an instant cure, however the implications are significant. Imagine being able to will away pain.
If you’re interested in biofeedback, you can contact one of these three associations to see if there's a practitioner in your area:
* Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB)
* Biofeedback Certification Institution of America (BCIA)
* The International Society for Neurofeedback and Research (ISNR)
Finally, there are other pain relief methods you can try including:
* Deep breathing exercises - Getting oxygen to all parts of the body is always good for it. In the case of pain it can actually help reduce the pain you are feeling. Focus on your breathing instead of the pain.
* Hypnosis - Many people swear by hypnosis, although, it's not for everyone. However, if you're willing to give it a try, it can do no harm.
* Muscle relaxation techniques - Getting your muscles to relax, especially when you're in pain, can be a difficult task. This is one method that may take awhile to master, but the benefits can be worth it.
Chronic pain offers a number of difficult symptoms. However, you are not hopeless. There are many strategies and tactics you can use to manage and help relieve your pain.
Find support and help to ensure you live the most pain-free life possible.
