Dealing With Chronic Fatigue Pain

You're probably aware that the most noted and primary symptom of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is fatigue. However, many people aren't aware that pain is also a common symptom of this ailment.

If you've recently been diagnosed with CFS, you may not be experiencing too much pain yet, but you should be aware that it can show up.

Here are five ways that many people deal with the pain associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If you are into taking a natural approach to your health, the first three methods can help you without harmful side effects you may get from pain medication.

1. Massage Therapy

There's not many things better than getting a relaxing massage. If you suffer from CFS it will feel even better to you than the relaxation you can achieve.

It can be extremely beneficial in pain management. Massage therapy has been shown to help reduce pain.

In addition to improving circulation, massage therapy can produce a sense of well being and relaxation which can reduce or alleviate pain.

If you want some added benefits trying soaking in a warm tub of water before your massage.

2. Yoga

Yoga is a physical activity, but it is designed to restore energy, not drain it. It also boosts circulation and the immune system.

Gentle yoga in a controlled environment can be a great long term solution to managing chronic pain associated with Chronic Fatigue. It can help you relax and optimize your body’s functions.

Add meditation to your daily yoga practice for extra benefits.

3. Homeopathy and supplementation

Homeopathy and supplementation have been used effectively to treat specific pains and symptoms. For example, devil’s claw and turmeric may be used to treat joint pain and inflammation.

Take great care when using homeopathy and supplementation. Consult an expert to make sure your herbs and remedies do not interact negatively with your other medications.

Especially try herbal remedies for inflammation.

More and more studies are showing that inflammation alone is a leading cause of pain and other ailments.

4. Pain Relievers

Many physicians will prescribe pain relievers to help you manage pain associated with Chronic Fatigue. There are two courses of action here, over the counter pain relievers and prescription pain relievers.

The problem with pain relievers is that your body can become addicted to both types. This means you’ll have headaches and withdrawal symptoms when you’re not taking them. And you’ll have to take more and more to relieve the pain.

Pain relievers are okay to take occasionally, however if you can find other methods to deal with pain associated with Chronic Fatigue, you’re better off in the long run.

Try the methods above before you start using pain meds and see if they will help first.

5. Biofeedback

Biofeedback is the process of becoming aware of your body and learning to manipulate it at will. Just as you can control your breathing, you can control other elements in your body.

Biofeedback has been developed over the past few decades and has proven effective in treating migraines and other chronic pain.

The process uses several testing and evaluation tools to learn to recognize a behavior in your body and to know when you’re having an effect on it.

It’s not an instant cure, however the implications are significant. Imagine being able to will away pain.

If you’re interested in biofeedback, you can contact one of these three associations to see if there's a practitioner in your area:

* Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB)
* Biofeedback Certification Institution of America (BCIA)
* The International Society for Neurofeedback and Research (ISNR)

Finally, there are other pain relief methods you can try including:

* Deep breathing exercises - Getting oxygen to all parts of the body is always good for it. In the case of pain it can actually help reduce the pain you are feeling. Focus on your breathing instead of the pain.

* Hypnosis - Many people swear by hypnosis, although, it's not for everyone. However, if you're willing to give it a try, it can do no harm.

* Muscle relaxation techniques - Getting your muscles to relax, especially when you're in pain, can be a difficult task. This is one method that may take awhile to master, but the benefits can be worth it.

Chronic pain offers a number of difficult symptoms. However, you are not hopeless. There are many strategies and tactics you can use to manage and help relieve your pain.

Find support and help to ensure you live the most pain-free life possible.

Chronic Fatigue Symptoms That Are Similar to Other Ailments

It's often difficult for a doctor to diagnose Chronic Fatigue Syndrome because many of the symptoms are similar to other painful conditions and illnesses.

It can be a long, drawn out process of elimination to determine an accurate diagnosis.

However, if you pay attention to your symptoms and know the symptoms of related conditions, you can help your doctor narrow it down and get a better treatment sooner, rather than later.

Here are a few conditions that may cause similar symptoms as Chronic Fatigue:

The most commonly misdiagnosed ailment, when you’re dealing with Chronic Fatigue, is fibromyalgia syndrome. The biggest symptom of fibromyalgia is chronic and intense pain throughout the muscles and joints.

This pain can last for days, weeks and months. Sufferers also deal with restless sleep, depression, stomach issues and fatigue.

Like Chronic Fatigue there is no known cause and the majority of the people who suffer from fibromyalgia are women.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis also mirrors some common Chronic Fatigue symptoms. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is a chronic, inflammatory, disease. It’s a neurological disease that affects the spinal cord and brain.

Common symptoms include muscle weakness, severe fatigue, balance problems, speech difficulties and circulation problems. However, unlike Chronic Fatigue, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is caused by a virus.

Chronic mononucleosis, also known as the kissing disease, Mono, is another that can have similar symptoms to CFS. Some people are chronic sufferers and mono has similar symptoms such as sore throat and extreme fatigue.

In addition to these major disease that mirror Chronic Fatigue symptoms there are other conditions that share symptoms and muddy the diagnosis process. They include:

Other Conditions That May Cause Similar Symptoms

* Hypothyroidism
* Sleep Apnea
* Narcolepsy
* Bipolar Affective Disorders
* Schizophrenia
* Cancer
* Autoimmune Disease
* Hormonal Disorders
* Obesity
* Substance Abuse
* Reactions To Prescribed Medications

So how is Chronic Fatigue diagnosed?

The best way to ensure a proper diagnosis is to be an effective communicator and your own advocate. Track and document your symptoms. Keep a journal that reflects your diet, habits and behaviors and symptoms.

Understand that your physician is dealing with a complicated process. There are no tests for Chronic Fatigue and no cure. If you’re unsatisfied with your diagnosis, find a doctor who listens to you and offers assistance and direction.

Chronic Fatigue is one of the most difficult conditions to diagnose, however, the medical community recognizes the disease and there is documentation to support it.

More than one million Americans have been diagnosed and many millions are left with the wrong diagnosis or no diagnosis at all. Take control of your health and the diagnosis process and look for answers. Be an active participant in your health care.

Also check into natural alternatives to help ease your pain and symptoms. Many people receive great results from things like meditation, visualization and yoga.

No matter which ailment you may be diagnosed with, these alternatives can help you in the long run.
