Chronic Fatigue - Natural Remedies

Bee pollen not only increases a person's physical energy, but restores mental alertness and eliminates lapses of memory and confusion.

The suggested dosage is one teaspoon of granular bee pollen after breakfast, or two 500 mg bee pollen pills.

It would be wise to take just a few granules of bee pollen each day to make sure you have no allergic reaction to it.

If, after three days, you are well, increase the amount to 1/4 teaspoon everyday. Over the next month or two, gradually work up to 3 teaspoons of bee pollen, taken throughout the day.

Try this Vermont tonic if you wake up tired: Put one cup warm water, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey in a blender.

Blend thoroughly, then sip it slowly until gone. Try having this tonic every morning before breakfast and you may feel a difference in your energy level.

A spicy picker-upper is a 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup of water. Drink it down for a quick second wind.

Maybe mental fatigue plagues you. Try this Austrian recipe: cut an apple into small pieces, leaving the peel on.

Put the pieces in a bowl and pour 2 cups of boiling water over the apple, letting it steep for an hour.

Add 1 tablespoon of honey, drink the water and eat the pieces of apple.

This would feel great in the spring or summer - walk barefoot in dewy grass. Second best - walk back and forth in your bathtub filled to 6 inches of cold water. 5 or 10 minutes twice a day will perk you up.

Garlic has so many great uses - cut a clove in half, take a few deep whiffs. That ought to wake you right up.

Chinese remedy - their theory is that tiredness collects on the insides of one's elbows and the backs of one's knees. Try waking up your body by slap-slap-slapping those areas.

Cayenne again - to stay awake through a long drive, or a night of cramming, mix 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to one quart of juice and drink a cup.

1 tablespoon of black-strap molasses added to a glass of milk (regular, skim, soy or rice milk).

If you can keep fresh grapes handy, a bunch of grapes can give you a bunch of energy. But if that is not feasible, keep dried figs handy. They pack a great energy punch.

They are delicious, satisfying and have more potassium than bananas, more calcium than milk. An added plus is that they are very high in dietary fiber and no cholesterol, fat or sodium.

Figs have easily digestible, natural, slow-burning sugars which will get you going and keep you going, much unlike the quick-fix, processed sugar in junk food.

Herbalists list figs as one of the 10 essential foods and recommend you try to find unsulfured figs. Don't go overboard right away on figs - they are known to help prevent or relieve constipation.

This is one thing I have done several times, especially on long trips; Feeling like you can't keep your eyes open, can't make it to the end of a work day?

If you are on a trip, stop and run around the car a few times. If you are at work, go to the bathroom, or a secluded spot and run in place. Two minutes and you should be able to get to the end of the day.

Available at health food stores, ground chia seeds can help your stamina. The American Indians would use a pinch of chia seeds to help their arduous round-the-clock days of hunting. Sprinkle them on salads or in soups.

Grapefruit is a great way to start the day, but try this change-up. Squeeze the juice of 1/2 a grapefruit into a glass, fill the rest of the way with warm water.

Drink it slowly, then eat the fruit from that 1/2 grapefruit. Now that your thyroid is activated, have a productive day!

You may have a tired liver, if you wake up feeling sluggish after a full night's sleep.

Try this liver massage: Standing up, place your right hand above your waist, on the bottom of your ribs on your right side, fingers apart, pointing toward your left side. Put your left hand on the left side in like manner.

Press your right hand in, relax, press your left hand in, relax. Repeat this a dozen times on each side each morning after you get up. In a couple weeks, you may see a big difference in your energy level.

Heavy starches and sweets can slow you down. Cut them out or cut back and see your get-up-and-go return.
