Causes and Solutions for Simple Headaches

Headaches are extremely inconvenient. Most of the time, they can come from anything, like stress, heat and fatigue. A headache alerts you that your body isn’t well. Here are some situations that may lead to a headache.

Oversleeping or Lack of Sleep

The average person sleeps at least five hours a day, but no more than ten hours a day. Babies usually sleep around 12 hours a day. Any extreme variation in your sleeping time, like sleeping for only five hours when you’re used to sleeping for ten hours, may cause headaches. On the other hand, sleeping for more than twelve hours will also result in the same pain inside your head.

Some people think that more coffee is the solution to this problem, but caffeine could make the headache worse. One thing that works in this situation is an ice pack. Sit still for a few minutes and hold an ice pack to your forehead. The chilled pack will help relieve the grogginess as well as the pressure inside your head.

Colds

When you have a cold, your nose is clogged and pressure builds up inside your head. Aching starts when you let the mucus build up even further, so the best way to deal with this is to use a decongestant, whether in the form of a nasal spray or cold medicine. When the mucus drains out, you will feel the pressure go down bit by bit until your nose is de-clogged.

Stress

While physical factors are common causes for headaches, we cannot deny that being too stressed could make your head throb. Stress can bring about a series of problems, like troubled breathing and quickening of the pulse. In some cases, hypertension occurs.

When you’re suffering from stress, the best thing to do is to remove yourself from the cause of stress. Take a walk, relax and free your mind of any worries. Sometimes, music works. Others use aromatherapy or they go to the spa to get a massage. Different people have different ways of dealing with stress. If you’ve dealt with stressful situations before, you can try what works for you and prevent the headache from recurring.

Vision Problems

Undiagnosed vision problems may also be causing your stress. Chronic headaches may be caused by vision troubles. If you’ve already visited an ophthalmologist, make sure you always wear the eyeglasses prescribed to you. Refusing to wear your prescription glasses could be the main cause of your headaches.
