In 2000 there were about 171 million people all over the world that suffer from diabetes. That is about 2.8% of the world population. Sadly, the experts’ projection is more bothering. By 2030, they expect the number to be more than doubled.
Determination and discipline are the fuels needed to kick start the two easy steps that will help us combat the acquisition of diabetes. By the way, these two steps are first to have a proper diet and second, to exercise regularly.
Having a proper diet can really help in preventing diabetes. A balanced, nutritious diet helps keep us healthy and it keeps our weight in check. Being healthy, and at an appropriate weight also reduces the risk of a high blood sugar. This helps to lower the risk of acquiring diabetes. The diet plan should always include as few processed carbohydrates as possible and it should be high in protein. The meal plan should be in a ratio of 30-40-30. That is 30% fat, 40% carbohydrates and 30% protein.
In addition to that, drinking lots of water is a good idea. It is advisable to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water or about 2 liters of water per day. Additionally, the intake of sodas and other unhealthy beverages like soft drinks should be limited or eliminated. Why? Because soft drinks make our bones soft. That is interesting, isn’t?
As for the second part of the plan – the exercise, this leaves open lots of opportunities, options and choices. We are individuals and each of us have different likes and dislikes so we can decide for ourselves how we will burn the unhealthy fat in our bodies and build more muscles.
Walking is one of the wonderful exercises that most people enjoy. If you don’t live in an area that affords itself to walking pleasure, then why not drive to the park or even to the mall and enjoy an afternoon walk three or four times a week. Or, how about skating or gardening? The idea is to find an activity that you enjoy doing, one that will also burn some calories. Then add that activity into your lifestyle on a regular basis. By all means, if you truly enjoy exercising then do that – but most of us don’t. Most of us prefer other ways of burning calories and building muscles.
Aside from that you can incorporate other healthy tactics into your life – things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or giving up your remotes, or parking at the far end of parking lots. I’m sure you get the idea, the little things will add up and they will help to increase your metabolism rate.
