How to Boost Your Moods.

Do you wake up in the morning and dread facing the day ahead? Are you tired of housework? Did the boss put on too much pressure?

Do you have too many personal problems? With the fast pace of today's world it doesn't take much to put us in a bad frame of mind. But a bad mood can be overcome if we try. Here are some suggestions:

- Go out into the fresh air or by an open window and breathe in and out slowly. Repeat several times.

- Clench fists and arms tightly and hold a few seconds, then relax. Repeat same procedure with shoulders, legs and feet.

- Relax on a chair or sofa. Visualize a relaxing stream of water or mountain of trees... anything tranquil. You can actually lower your blood pressure by 10 points or more within two or three minutes using this procedure.

- Take a short walk, possibly in an area you are not familiar with.

- Spend some time with your favorite hobby and forget everything else.

- Listen to your favorite music.

- Dark rooms can also have an effect on your frame of mind. Turn on lights and music if available. Open windows and doors.

- Avoid getting in a bad mood by never expecting too much. Nothing is perfect. Go about your daily routines and just do the best you can. That's all anyone can do.

- Call friends on the phone. Visit your favorite club. Do something for your church so that you can be with people you do not see daily. Do something different

Healthy Smoothie Recipes Perfect to use with our convenient protein powder supplement to optimize your health!

KIWI PEACH SMOOTHIE
4 kiwifruit, peeled
4 peaches, peeled and frozen*
16 ounces can pineapple juice
1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cups frozen limeade concentrate
1/4 teaspoons coconut extract
1 cup ice cubes
Garnish: kiwifruit slices
* If fresh peaches are unavailable, substitute 1 1‐pounds Bag frozen peaches. Process first 7 ingredients in a blender until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides. Garnish, if desired, and serve immediately.

LEMON LIME SMOOTHIE
10 ounces lemon lime soda
2 ounces lemons
2 ounces limes
1 scoops lemon sherbet
1 scoop lime sherbet
1/2 banana
1 cup ice
2/3 cups granulated sugar
Place ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth.

LEMON WATERMELON SMOOTHIE
1‐1/2 cups seeded watermelon, diced
1 cup lemon sorbet
8‐10 ice cubes
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. The tart lemon sorbet is a perfect match with the sweet, juicy watermelon. To make an even thicker smoothie, freeze the watermelon first. Serves 2

LEMONADE SWEET TART SMOOTHIE
Just think of a sweet‐tart lemon milkshake. . . Only slushy! 1 (6‐ounces) can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/4 cups sugar ‐ or to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 to 12 ice cubes
Place all ingredients into container of electric blender. Blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serve immediately.

General Biofeedback Principles

Some biofeedback principles, like healing through relaxation, are as old as ancient medicine.

In the 1960s, scientists began using electronic devices to monitor brain waves and other stress responses.

Keep these ideas in mind:

1. Find a practitioner that’s right for you.

Most states have few restrictions on who can perform biofeedback services.

To help find someone with training and experience, you can search online for certified providers at The Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.

2. Prepare for your sessions.

A therapist will attach sensors to your skin, so they can monitor your body functions and give you feedback on how to control them.

You may also receive exercises to do at home.

3. Understand different methods.

The type of biofeedback you’ll use depends on your purpose.

For example, ADHD cases may involve electroencephalography (EEG) to measure brain waves, while an electromyogram (EMG) measures muscle activity related to back pain.

4. Check your insurance.

Medicare and other providers sometimes cover biofeedback.

You’ll probably need at least 10 sessions, so ask your insurance company or human resources department about your benefits.

Specific Uses for Biofeedback

You’ll find a very wide range of applications to choose from.

Research to date has shown mixed results in certain areas, but you may want to explore some of the most common and popular uses, such as:

1. Manage pain.

Many patients report positive results with migraines and other sources of chronic pain.

In addition to reducing your physical discomfort, biofeedback may help you cope with related emotional issues too.

2. Reduce incontinence.

You can learn to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.

That will give you greater bladder control, especially if you also do Kegel exercises.

3. Relieve anxiety.

Many psychiatrists and psychologists favor biofeedback as part of behavioral treatments.

Research shows that in some cases it can be as effective as medication.

Vision Over 40 – Are Reading Glasses Necessary?

As we age our vision changes and for most people, that is going to mean that they will need corrective lenses.

By middle age many of us have settled into and accepted that we do have perfect vision, but then we begin noticing that it becomes more and more difficult to read items that are up close.

We panic as we realize we have reached the dreaded and feared age of reading glasses.

It has been estimated that 95% of all people 50 and over could benefit from reading glasses – that is, if they have not opted for an expensive surgery or contact lenses.

The point is that reading glasses are probably in your future so learning about them is important.

First of all, you should know that that you can purchase reading glasses at department and drug stores. This type is usually very inexpensive.

That is a huge advantage because you can then have several pairs – keep them in different rooms of your home, at your office, in your car, in your purse, well, you get the idea. It also allows you to play around with styles and colors.

Because you can buy these glasses so inexpensively (they are often sold at dollar stores) you can have a collection large enough that you have a real choice in which pair of glasses you wear each day.

Since some people think of glasses as jewelry for their face it stands to reason that they would want their glasses to match their outfit.

Now for the negative side of the inexpensive glasses; first of all, if you are purchasing your glasses without first having your eyes examined you cannot be certain you are purchasing the right strength for your eyes, and secondly the cheaper glasses are almost always made with both lenses in the same strength – most people have one eye that is stronger than the other.

The ready-made are sold inexpensively because they are made inexpensively. But if they work for you then why not use them.

A good middle of the road course of action is to actually have your eyes examined and use a prescription to determine the strength of lenses you need, but even that will not guarantee that the optics in each lens will line up with the centers of your eyes. If that is the case the wearer may experience eyestrain or headaches.

The ready-made glasses are sold based on the measurement of the lenses’ power, a range of diopters. Most people that are 40 – 45 use reading glasses in the range of plus 1 to plus 1.25 diopters.

This typically goes up about half a unit per decade, which means that by the time a person is 55 or 60 he will be in the range of about plus 2.5, and at 65 – 70, about 2.75 or 3. Persons 80 and over and plus 3 and above.
