Today we are looking into ADHD in adult women, how to books your metabolism with diet, and more review of EMDR. Still not sure what EMDR is? . . . read more below.

Last month, in my little personal note section, I wrote about chronic disease and how earth shattering it is when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with such a condition.

Like so many things in our life, it is easier to talk about these things when they are only possibilities, as opposed to when they are looming over us.

We know that everything we do has an impact on us, be it positive or negative.
We know that when we age there are effects from the aging itself that slows us down.
We know that the things we do which negatively impact our health build up over time and the outcomes from that can be more pronounced as we age.

Chronic disease may be genetic, or it may be exacerbated by lifestyle and environmental factors.

Carrying too much weight, smoking, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, all put pressure on our bodies.
We can ignore those things. That is every bodies personal decision to make.
Alternatively we can take action now rather than waiting till there is a crisis.

Big decisions like total change of lifestyle, diet, exercise routines, often only come about after there is bad health new or a health 'event'.

I suggest that we all look at taking some simple action before problems develop.

Sure, exercise routines can be really difficult to fit into a busy life. I totally understand that myself.

What is easy to do though which will have a positive impact on our health?

Significant change of diet is another thing which would work, which sounds good, but which is really hard to actually put in place and to stick with.

Natural Health & Beauty Recipes

Healthy Smoothie Recipes Perfect to use with our convenient protein powder supplement to optimize your health!

CAROB SMOOTHIE
3‐4 dates, pitted and soaked 20 minutes
1 cup nut or grain milk
1 frozen banana, cut in chunks
3‐4 tablespoons carob powder
Dash vanilla (optional)
Place dates in a small bowl with just enough water to cover.
Let them soak 20 minutes, drain. In blender, combine the dates, nut milk, banana, carob powder and vanilla.
Blend until smooth. Drink immediately.

CHERRY BERRY SMOOTHIE
1 cup low‐fat cherry yogurt
1/4 cups cranberry juice
1 cup frozen, pitted cherries
3/4 cups frozen, unsweetened blueberries
Combine the yogurt and cranberry juice in a blender.
Add the cherries and berries. Blend until smooth.
Makes about 2‐1/2 cups, serves 2.

Natural Beauty Recipe

Basic Bubble Bath Recipe
Use only 100% pure soap flakes.
Almond Oil--2 cups
Distilled Water--2 cups
Soap Flakes (or grated soap)--1 cup
Witch Hazel--2 Tbsp
Boil the spring water and melt the soap in it.
In another container, mix the witch hazel and almond oil together and shake well. (If possible, do this in a blender.)
Then slowly add the soap mixture to the witch hazel and oil blend and again, shake or blend well.
These amounts will make a large quantity of basic bubble bath mixture to which you can add the essential oils of your choice as and when required.
For each 2 tablespoons of base bubble bath, use 15 drops of essential oil and mix well. Use 1-2 teaspoons of the final product in each bath.

Easy Bubble Bath
Soap Flakes or Grated Soap--2 cups
Water--1 gallon
Glycerin--1/4 to 1/2 cup
Shampoo or Liquid Dish Soap--2 cups
Essential Oil of Choice
Mix the soap flakes, water and 2 tbsp glycerin in a pot over low heat, stirring occasionally until the soap has dissolved.
(Store this liquid soap in a covered container, used as an all-purpose soap or hand soap.) In a bowl, add 2 cups of this mixture to the rest of the glycerin, shampoo and essential oil. Pour into a one quart container.
Store covered at room temperature. When you're ready to bathe, add about one cup to your tub as it's filling.
Remember! Use no more than 30 drops of essential oils to 1 oz of carrier (bubble bath)! (15 drops being very safe.)

What is ADHD in Adult Women?

ADHD in adult women is a recent phenomenon has been brought on by social media: adult women wondering if they might have ADHD.

Social media users have found a community who shares what it’s like living with ADHD.

Instead of thinking ADHD only affects a small percentage of the female population, many female viewers resonate with what they see.

Many women go undiagnosed with ADHD until their teens or into adulthood.

In many cases, women don’t get a proper diagnosis until they’re in their late thirties or early forties.

Women who get diagnosed later in life miss out on early intervention resources, and many women may not have the time, money, or energy to get a diagnosis later in life, even if they suspect they may have ADHD.

Some of the common symptoms of ADHD in Adult Women

The Three Types of ADHD in Adult Women

ADHD is characterized as either a combination of inattentiveness and hyperactivity or one or the other.

● ADHD Combined Type.

ADHD Combined Type is the most common form of ADHD.

Individuals with Combined Type will have both inattentive and hyperactive behaviors.

● ADHD Inattentive Type.

The Inattentive Type of ADHD is when a person has trouble remembering things, is easily distracted, or struggles to follow directions but does not have the classic characteristics of hyperactivity.

● ADHD Hyperactive Type.

Someone with Hyperactive ADHD might act impulsively, struggle to sit still, or talk a lot.

They will not have issues with forgetfulness or have trouble focusing.

Of the three types, this one is the rarest.

What Causes ADHD in Adult Women

The specific cause of ADHD is unknown, but there is a strong genetic correlation.

Medical News Today writes, “A person whose parents or siblings have ADHD has a higher risk of experiencing symptoms.”

The same article says that genetics may play a role, but scientists have not found a specific gene indicating whether someone will develop ADHD.

In addition, people who have a parent or sibling with ADHD will not necessarily develop ADHD.

For instance, in a twin study, there is not a 100% chance that identical twins will both develop ADHD, although there is a 74% -80% chance that twins will both have ADHD.

That may indicate that there is an environmental correlation to ADHD. Some potential risk factors for ADHD include:

● Exposures to toxins

● Premature birth

● Maternal drug or alcohol use

● Head injury

It’s most likely that there is a genetic predisposition to ADHD that several environmental factors may contribute to that increase the risk of developing ADHD.

What is EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing - Psychotherapy Treatment?

Its purpose is one that’s intended to relieve stress and other negative feelings that can be caused by traumatic memories.

This can be living through a traumatic event yourself or witnessing it happen to someone else.

There are three different parts to the EMDR therapy that can be a help to people.

The first part is dealing with the events and memories that are responsible for the emotional problems you’ve been experiencing.

In this first part of dealing with the events, you’ll learn how to create new links that you can associate with the events and memories.

EMDR therapy works in that it can have you feeling safe and in control in your environment rather than afraid and feeling like the world is not a safe place for you to be in.

The second part that can help people who use EMDR techniques is targeting the present situations that might provoke your distress.

During the sessions, while you’re going through the phases, you’ll be doing work designed to desensitize any external and internal triggers you may have.

Many people have certain triggers that will cause them to feel as powerless and scared as they were at the time the actual event took place.

The person can feel like he or she is actual back in the event or seeing it again.

EMDR can help you overcome the emotions and issues that are connected with that. The third part involves using imagery.

What Problems Can Be Helped by EMDR?

There are several problems and symptoms that can be handled by using the teachings of EMDR.

Extremely traumatic events such as sexual and physical abuse can be successfully treated.

Rape victims can find relief from the traumatic memories through the techniques offered. Child traumas can also be treated by using EMDR.

Experiencing the death of a loved one can be difficult.

Not everyone grieves in the same manner.

Losing someone that you care about can be a traumatic event that can cause people to become stuck.

EMDR can also help you overcome the trauma of losing someone that you love.

There are other traumatic events that can require the need for a treatment like EMDR.

If you witness a terrible trauma or the abuse of someone else, it can affect you emotionally.

So can going through a natural disaster or even watching it unfold on television.

Going through a short term event can have long term emotional consequences.

An example of this would be having a house fire or being in a car accident.

When you go through something like that, these events can bring on feelings of loss of control and fear.

Eating Tips to Boost Your Metabolism

Whether you’re trying to lose weight or just wanting to maintain your sleek physique, boosting your metabolism to a higher rate is always a good idea.

There are several ways to give your metabolism an extra push – including exercising early in the day – but eating can also be a factor in its elevation.

Increasing your metabolism means your body burns calories at a higher rate. So if your metabolism is high, it’s burning calories even when you aren’t working hard at the gym.

A sluggish metabolism can cause you to gain weight, because you’re consuming more than your body is burning.

The first thing you need to do is add breakfast to your daily meal planner. Although many people don’t like eating breakfast, it gives your body the rev up it needs to launch your metabolism. A 250-calorie snack is all it takes to boost your metabolism in the morning.

Another way to increase your metabolism is to add spices to your food. According to the U.S. Agricultural Research Service, Cinnamon is one spice that increases your metabolism twentyfold – and all you have to ingest is a mere ¼ to 1 tsp per day!

While you’re planning your meals, you may want to add kiwi fruit to your diet. Kiwis pack a lot of vitamin C, but if you add 500 mg of it to your day, you burn up to 39% more fat when you’re exercising.

Don’t get too much C, though, because once you get to the 2,000 mg mark, you start experiencing adverse effects like bloating, gas, and diarrhea.

Another metabolism boosting measure is to watch what you drink. Adding ice to a drink makes your body work harder because it has to heat it up in your stomach, which increases your metabolism. Also, ingesting a caffeine drink like coffee or tea can raise your heart rate and increase your metabolism.

Where you’re eating can be just as important as what you’re eating. When you’re having breakfast in the morning, try positioning yourself near a window so that you can soak up some sun.

The bright light boosts your metabolism and also helps you increase bone and muscle strength.

You can also add a daily multivitamin to help your body burn more calories. When you add 120 mcg daily, your body benefits by revving up its metabolism.

Chromium, which is found in tomatoes and in a supplement form, also boosts the way you burn fat.

If you really want to kick-start your metabolism, you may also try dividing your meals up into smaller portions that you eat more often throughout the day.

Every time you eat, it helps your metabolism rise, so as strange as it may sound, eating frequently can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
