Your Ankle Joints Bear the Brunt of Your Weight Gain Woes

There are so many ways that being overweight can hurt you. Backaches, painful knee joints, breathlessness when climbing stairs are a few ways. But there’s one area of your body that can throw off your entire balance when you have a significant gain in weight.

Being overweight commonly causes swelling around the ankle as well as the possibility of infections in the legs and blood clots. Being overweight can be the catalyst that causes pain in the ankles and as weight creeps on, you’ll find yourself struggling to walk.

Keeping the weight on and treating the ankle joint pain without dealing with the root cause (weight gain) can even lead to significant problems and the strong possibility that you’ll need surgery to repair the damage the added pounds did to your joints.

Just like in the knee joints, being overweight can also cause inflammation in the ankle joints. You might not think getting rid of the weight is something you need to start striving toward today, but the ankle joint is your ticket to both stability and mobility.

If they’re not in good working form, you’ll find it difficult to keep your balance and the wear and tear on the joints can be quite painful when your gait is affected. Given enough time, the cartilage in the ankle joints will begin to deteriorate.

You’ll find it easier to sprain your ankle due to weakness in the joints and whenever you get an ankle injury, you open the door to lifelong problems such as arthritis.
