When we run down the space on our computers we need to clear out the rubbish and free up some space for the programs to run properly.

Out bodies are not that different. Some times we need to clean house.

Detox / Detoxifying – these are terms we hear when people are talking about health but what do they really mean and how do we deal with it?

Our lifestyles cause us to pick up toxins, poisons, contaminations through our daily lifestyle.Modern life is worse as we have moved away from whole foods and raw foods that have a tendency to cleanse our body naturally and we have added lots of other stress factors to our lives.

We eat food that has additives, colourings, growth hormones, preservatives and who knows what else in it.The air of our cities is full of smog and other particles.We pray our homes and gardens with chemicals.We spend time near a smoker and breath in the second hand smoke.Just being around plastics means we pick up chemicals from them.

This is a problem.

We are adding things into our body that the body is not designed to cope with.We then make food choices that do not give the whole foods and clear flushing water to help clear it out.

There are studies all over the world right now looking into the link between the buildup of these poisons and toxins in our body with the instance of Cancer.

I am not saying that allowing these toxins to stay in your body will give you cancer but when so many top medical people are looking into this then we have to be mindful off it.

What can we do about it?

The answer is to Detox. That is to detoxify – flush the toxins out of our system.

There are lots of detox diets. A quick search of the internet will give you dozens.There are a lot of specific foods that will aid in detox.

In our case we use Herbalife products and that will give a deep and thorough detox.Initially it will clean and clear through the effect of the herbal ingredients but the longer we stay on the products the better the detox effects are.

Let me tell you an anecdote of a specific lady I know. I was talking with a lady who had very bad Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and had been using cleansing herbs for her health and for cleansing for over 2 years. She had great results and believed herself recovered. Then she had another period where she know her body was clearing toxins and poisons. She has a team of medical specialists who had been studying her case and they tested her perspiration to see what was going on and found that she was pushing mercury and heavy metals out through her skin!

I am not saying that Herbalife detoxifies heavy metals but that in this one case that was happening and there may have been other factors involved. What I do know though is that the herbs in the Herbalife products are very gentle but they are also very thorough and that using a program like this is great to clear away the worries of carrying poisons in your system.

How does Detox work?

When you start on a detox program the body will start to clear poisons out of your whole system, including muscles, organs and just what is in your bloodstream.

These poisons leech into your blood and pass through your kidneys to end up flushed down the toilet.

The key here is to drink a lot of water to help the flushing process.

If you do not drink enough water then the toxins build up in your blood stream and lead to the physical effects.

Now these symptoms are a good sign as you are clearing the poisons out of your body but you do not want to deal with them if you don’t need to so the answer is to drink more water.

Some common detox symptoms can include:

• Headaches – this is a dull headache, a bit like a hangover if you know that feeling. (A sharp headache is generally not detox but more likely to be caused by Change of Diet symptoms.
• Lethargy
• Temporary muscle aches, especially in the shoulders, down the back, around the kidneys. If you feel like you have been doing a gym workout but have not been then that is likely to be detox
• A coated or furry tongue
• Flu-like symptoms
• Body Odour Problems
• Difficulty sleeping
• Weakness
• Cravings
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Gas

It is quite possible that medical problems you thought you had solved come back to you for a short time.

All of these things can be relieved with more water.

How long can this last?

Generally detox does not start to become obvious for a few days after you start on a program and around day 6 or 7 you are likely to be seeing a peak.

It can last a couple of weeks if you do not drink enough water.

Once the effect passes then, if you continue to use the nutrition products, it is likely to reoccure every 90 days or so, weaker each time and you body works through its cycles.

How much water do you need a day?

Water is critical to you as you begin your Herbalife journey as having enough water will wash through your body and remove the poisons and toxins that the cleansing herbs in the Herbalife nutrition products will flush out of your system.

Water is also an important structural component of skin cartilage, tissues and organs. For human beings, every part of the body is dependent on water. Our body comprises about 75% water: the brain has 85%, blood is 90%, muscles are 75%, kidney is 82% and bones are 22% water. The functions of our glands and organs will eventually deteriorate if they are not nourished with good, clean water.

The average adult loses about 2.5 litres/ 6 pints of water daily through perspiration, breathing and elimination. Symptoms of the body’s deterioration begin to appear when the body loses 5% of its total water volume. In a healthy adult, this is seen as fatigue and general discomfort, whereas for an infant, it can be dehydrating. In an elderly person, a 5% water loss causes the body chemistry to become abnormal, especially if the percentage of electrolytes is overbalanced with sodium. One can usually see symptoms of aging, such as wrinkles, lethargy and even disorientation. Continuous water loss over time will speed up aging as well as increase risks of diseases.

If your body is not sufficiently hydrated, the cells will draw water from your bloodstream, which will make your heart work harder. At the same time, the kidneys cannot purify blood effectively. When this happens, some of the kidney's workload is passed on to the liver and other organs, which may cause them to be severely stressed. Additionally, you may develop a number of minor health conditions such as constipation, dry and itchy skin, acne, nosebleeds, urinary tract infection, coughs, sneezing, sinus pressure, and headaches.

So, how much water is enough for you? The minimum amount of water you need depends on your body weight. A more accurate calculation is to drink an ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight/ 30 ml for every kilo of body weight.

What this means in real terms is that most people do not drink enough water. It is particularly important in the next couple of weeks that you get your water use up as you will be going through a period of cleansing your body with the Herbalife. Do you bit to ‘help out’ your body by drinking enough water to flush out the poisons. – set yourself a 2 week goal of having enough water.
