Aside from being our body's largest organ that protects us against various infections and illnesses, our skin is also the best indicator of aging. Since the skin plays an important role in our overall well being, it is a must that we take care of it the best possible way we can.

Indeed, developing healthy habits can help you develop an effective anti-aging regimen that can help slow down the aging process. Experts advise that people should—as much as possible—treat their aging skin the natural way

Wrinkles are quite literally a sign of the times. They are caused by both genetic and environmental factors such as sunlight, make up, chemical ridden cosmetics, cigarette smoke, and other pollutants.

But regardless of their cause, many women find their laugh lines to be no laughing matter.

So what can we do to prevent and stall the skin damage that causes wrinkles, laugh lines, age spots, and other bothersome blemishes?

Signs & Symptoms

The truth is we begin the aging process just as soon as we pop out of the womb. Every day of our lives our bodies slough off and regenerate new cells. The speed at which that process takes place when we are children is vastly different as we get older.

For years explorers searched for the illusive “fountain of youth.” Unfortunately, it does not exist or you wouldn’t be reading this.

Every day you are bombarded daily with commercial messages that attempt to lure you into believing that the most recent miracle drug is just what you need to fight off the ravages of Mother Nature.

At times it seems as though there are more miracle methods than ever being flashed in front of your eyes each day. . .and there are. Ask any advertising executive and they will admit that there are more advertisements than ever touting everything designed to cash in on a huge market. What is that market? It’s the aging Baby Boomers.

We are living longer as a whole. Singularly, that can be a curse or a blessing depending on your perspective. In this article we will explore low and no cost methods you can use to help in the anti-aging process.

Types of Anti-Aging Skin Care

The Skin Renews Itself

There is nothing more appealing to look at than younger skin. The texture varies from person to person. Some have fine, normal skin, some oily, and most of the time problematic. Beautiful skin is tight, not too oily or too dry, and most of all, flawless. Unfortunately, the majority of adults find skin problems either a big or small issue: say some 20% of adults are plagued by acne. Skin problems on the face are every gender's struggle to have beautiful skin.

What we need to know about the skin and its renewal capabilities.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It is the topmost protective covering or barrier of the body from all external factors. While its biological function is very important to humans, as social beings, the skin is the most exposed and critiqued part of the body. While fashion can cover the legs, arms and body, the face has no refuge. Signs of aging are seen in the face easily. Wrinkles on strategic spots will only get more pronounced each year as soon as you reach your 30's.

On a daily basis, injured skin recovers from a minimum time of at least 2 weeks. Other than this natural healing process, there are natural chemicals in the body that works to repair the skin underneath even without any medical intervention.

By understanding how the skin heals by itself, most manufacturers of cosmetics can flaunt their products as "natural." Skin supplements have been studied to enhance the natural functioning of the skin's healing process to help it look better without causing harm. Although others have complied the principle, other low-cost products are produced for purely monetary gain.

Consumers have to be aware of the irritants before using it daily.

Common facial skin treatments used commercially to help diminish dull outer skin layers are "exfoliants". The benefit of using exfoliating solution will help remove dead skin cells at the top most surface of the skin. With the dead cells gone, the new skin is revealed. Proper and mild skin exfoliation can promote faster replenishment of the skin layer, which helps prevent skin blemishes and clogged pores. Some with problematic and acne prone skin may prolong the use of a certain exfoliating solution and cause secondary problems, which is hyper pigmentation.

If there are questionable conditions or problems of the skin, it is still best to consult the experts to avoid more calamities to the skin.

When Should I Start Using Anti-Wrinkle Creams?

You can start using anti-wrinkle creams before you even see a wrinkle appear. Eye creams in particular are effective at supporting the delicate area around the eyes and preventing or stalling the development of wrinkles. Many women (and men) start using anti wrinkle creams in their thirties. The skin’s natural levels of collagen diminish with age and anti-wrinkle creams may offer a suitable replacement. These creams may be too heavy for younger, thicker skin, so you’ll have to determine whether or not they’re right for your skin type. I recommend using all-natural products, organically certified if possible.

How Can I Diminish Wrinkles?

There are numerous products and techniques available today to help you diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Herbal creams and vitamin supplements can be used to reduce the effects of aging on the skin. You must choose which product or method is best for you based on the number and severity of your wrinkles and the level at which they bother you.

Anti-Aging Products and Ingredients

Vitamin A: Vitamin A yields a slight inflammatory action on the skin. It can help to “puff up” the skin and diminish the depth of many wrinkles.

Vitamin C: This water-soluble vitamin helps to improve circulation and boost the production of collagen within the body. It has a brightening affect on skin that has become dull and dry with age.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to protect skin from the damaging effect of free radicals. It also strengthens the immune system, improves circulation, and protects red blood cell membranes.

Coenzyme Q10: This powerful antioxidant is effective at protecting the skin from free radical damage and improving circulation throughout the body. Coenzyme Q10 can be found in oral vitamin supplements or as an ingredient in skin care creams.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids: AHA’s or fruit acids help to slough off dead skin cells that can dull the skin’s appearance.

How and Why Skin Ages

First off, there are two types of aging for the skin. There is the intrinsic (internal) aging, which is caused by factors within one’s own body, such as genes and body condition; and extrinsic (external) aging, which is caused by factors outside one’s body, such as sunlight and lifestyle.

Intrinsic (internal) aging Aging is a natural process and our genes determine how one goes through that process. For some, aging can set on earlier or later than most. On average, signs of skin aging begin to appear in the mid-20s.

As one grows older, the skin’s ability to snap back to shape (elasticity) starts to decrease. That is because skin cells do not regenerate as fast as they used to - resulting to tougher, older skin. Although internal aging begins in one’s 20s, the typical signs of wrinkles and sagging skin do not appear for until about a couple of decades more.

Other signs that indicate skin aging are thinning, loss of firmness, dryness, and reduction of sweat production that prevents proper cooling of the body.

Extrinsic (external) aging
Factors outside one’s own genes accelerate skin aging. Lifestyles and habits carry more impact of why aging skin occurs more prematurely in one’s lifetime.

For as long as one can remember, it has always been the pursuit of many to keep their youthful looks, even at great costs. And in this day and age, the trend has not changed.

Now more than ever, methods, techniques and treatments meant to retain that “youthful glow” proliferate everywhere. As it is the most telltale sign of getting old, anti-aging goods and services account for billions of dollars spent in the hopes of delaying the onset of skin aging.

Unfortunately, many have been and are misinformed on how and why the skin ages misleading these same people into buying products that only offer short-lived, if not unsuccessful and disappointing, results.

It is therefore only smart to know just how the skin develops over time. In understanding the hows and whys of aging skin, the correct habits and treatments can then be developed to retain as much one’s youthful looks for as long a time as possible.

Risk Factors:

Sun exposure

With the present condition our atmosphere is in, harmful rays from the sun pass through in ever increasing amounts causing damage to the skin and hampering its ability to repair itself.

Over a period of time, a few minutes a day of exposure to ultraviolet rays results in changes to the skin (freckles, age spots, rough skin). An even graver symptom would be the onset of skin cancer. Dermatologists call this effect photo aging in reference to the sun’s rays that reduce the production of collagen responsible for maintaining the skin’s elasticity.

One’s susceptibility to photo aging is determined by the amount of pigment in the skin as well as the frequency and duration one spends under the sun’s rays.

Given these factors, fair-skinned individuals and those who spend long periods under the sun stand to have more pronounced effects of photo aging compared to those who are darker-skinned and spend more time in the shade.

Facial Exercises

Ironically, the routine once prescribed to prevent facial wrinkles is actually one of the causes of that very thing one aims to avoid. Facial exercises cause the muscles on the face to fold and crease the skin. As the skin’s elasticity decreases, the skin starts to take on the creases more permanently causing deep wrinkles on the face.

Smoking

Cigarette smoking does not only cause harm to the body internally but externally as well. This is most pronounced with the condition of the skin. Nicotine intake causes changes in the body that speeds up the break down of skin cells, among other harmful effects.

It is a common finding that individuals who’ve been smokers for at least a decade look comparably older than those who do not smoke. In addition to wrinkles, yellowish discoloration of the skin has been observed in smokers. However, the good news is that those who have given up smoking show improvements in their skin condition shortly after quitting.

The signs of skin aging will inevitably show up on everyone at one point or the other. All sorts of products and treatments can be availed of but it is only meant to delay the outward symptoms.

Perhaps the best solution is to understand the aging process and not view it as a disease, but rather see it as another stage of development the body undergoes - a solution that requires no prescription and is free of charge.

Prevention:

How Can I Prevent Wrinkles?

The best way to prevent wrinkles is to follow a regular skin care routine, and to adamantly protect your face from the detrimental effects of the sun. You need to cleanse your skin on a daily basis to remove the perspiration, debris, and pollutants that can buildup and damage your pores. And use a natural sunscreen (with a minimum SPF 15) to shield your face from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays. Also, avoid smoking, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages that dehydrate the skin. Drink plenty of purified water to keep your skin supple, hydrated and healthy.

Don’t Get Burned!

American over 65 account for half of all new cases of skin cancer. Damage to the skin doesn’t happen overnight but accumulates over years. • Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
• Look for the UV Index in your local newspaper.
• Wear a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses in the sun.
• Conduct a self-exam of your skin once a month looking for any new growths or changes in moles, freckles or birthmarks.
• Don’t be fooled by clouds. Sunlight and UV rays penetrate the clouds so wear sunscreen even on cloudy days.
• Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to ears, neck and the back of your hands.

Daily Skin Care As An Effective Anti-Aging Routine

Experts in the beauty industry say that there are actually two effective ways of taking care of aging skin. First is the artificial means through plastic surgeries and through the use of products that contain chemicals that are believed to minimize the signs of aging.

And the other one is through natural means that include measures to living a healthy lifestyle like eating the right foods, not smoking, occasional drinking of alcohol, and regular exercise.

Experts say that although artificial means is an easy remedy to aging, they encourage people to take natural means as possible because if these are done and followed properly, they can have a lasting effect on your appearance and over all health and well being.

In order to avoid the early signs of aging, skin care should be an essential part of everyone’s life. The first step in taking care of skin is to know what type of skin you possess. Dermatologists—professionals who are experts on skin and skin care and treatment—categorize skin types into four that include dry, oily, normal, and combination.

A tight or rough feel of the skin often distinguishes dry skin. It is characterized by the presence of flakes and scales as well as redness and itchiness of the skin. Experts say that is if you have dry skin, it is a must that you avoid washing it with hot water. It is also a must that you stay away from using harsh or strong soaps and alcohol-based skin products to avoid skin irritation.

The next type is the oily skin that is characterized by shiny appearance and large pores on the skin's surface that makes it prone to acne. People who have oily skin should shun away from too much scrubbing that can cause more pimple breakout. It is also advisable that they use non-comedogenic skin products to maintain healthy skin.

Normal skin, on the other hand, is characterized by healthy glow. It doesn’t have redness or large pores. People who have normal skin types should use skin care products that help maintain the natural water balance of their skin.

Last is combination skin that has dry and oily areas. Oily sections usually include the T-zone (the forehead, nose, and chin), while cheeks remain less oily. People with combination skin must use products that are specifically developed for this skin type in order to avoid over-drying that can cause redness, itchiness, or any irritation.

Know Your Own Skin Type

As it is with everything else, knowing the condition of the different parts of your body is the first step in caring for it. Skin is no different. Knowing your skin type is the beginning of giving your skin the proper treatment to maintain good skin tone and condition.

Your skin type is a general description of how your skin feels and behaves. The most common types used for commercial products are normal, oily, dry and combination skin. Other categories include blemish-prone, sensitive and sun-damaged skin.

Convenient as these skin type categories are in choosing products, it is not exactly the best way to know and understand your skin on a level that will really help it. This is perhaps the reason why, even though the “right” products have been used for your designated skin type, you still

experience either dryness, oiliness, acne and other problems.

Why is this so? First of all, you have to remember, like any part of your body, you skin is never the same all throughout. It goes through all sorts of conditions depending on several factors, some of which include your genes, your lifestyle and habits. Add to this the fact that the problems you are experiencing may not be simply the result of lack of care. There are cases when skin diseases are the reasons.

So from here on end, it will be good for you to forget what beauty magazines, cosmetic salespeople, and aestheticians tell you about the four skin types. It’s about time you go beneath the surface and really know what your skin is about.

First off, know the factors that Influence your skin type. This can get tricky since almost everything can influence your skin and the condition it’s in. Just looking and feeling your face is not enough to determine your skin type. To get an effective evaluation of your skin, consider the following.

The first set of factors affecting your skin are those within your own body. Hormonal changes brought on by your body’s development influence your skin to a huge extent. For women, the menstrual cycle can cause drastic changes on the skin. The same goes for periods of pregnancy and menopause. Men are also subject to these influences, especially in the puberty stage as hormones causes the body to develop.

Your genes also influence the propensity to acquire a certain skin condition that is characteristic of your parents’ own skin types. However, as their skin is also influenced by different factors, your skin and theirs may not necessarily be the same.

Lifestyles and habits also affect your skin and while these may seem external to your body, the way you conduct daily activities such as diet, exercise, smoking and drinking habits influence your body and therefore your skin as well.

Other influences affecting your skin lie outside your body such as weather and climate as well as your skin-care regimen of choice.

The climates of areas you spend prolonged periods in influence how your body reacts. Cold climates tend to cause dry skin and flaking where as humid areas cause excessive sweating and oil production.

The skin care products you choose also affect your skin condition. Using creams or moisturizers that have too much emollients will cause your skin to be oily whereas strong cleansers and exfoliates result in dry, sensitive skin.

Now that you know what influences your skin, it is time to know what condition it is in.

First of all, don’t evaluate your skin right after you’ve washed your face. This is because your skin is reacting to the water and cleansers you’ve put on it. Wait four to five hours after you’ve washed. This will give your skin time to recover from the cleansing and allow it to resume its “normal” activity. Also try to do this on a day you had not worn any makeup or put on creams so a more accurate evaluation can be made.

Take a piece of facial tissue and press it on different areas of your face. Hold the tissue against the light and if blotches can be seen, then you have oily skin. This is the reason why you should carry out this assessment when you are not wearing makeup or moisturizers since the oil may be caused by these substances.

If the general area of your face appears dry, feels tight and can see patches of skin flakes, then you are dealing with dry skin. On the other hand, if you observe that some areas are both dry and oily then you have combination skin.

When to seek Medical Advice:

Now that you know the degree of oiliness or dryness your skin has right now, you need to know whether or not your skin is suffering from some form of skin disease.

Are there areas of redness around your nose and cheeks with red bumps and blemishes but aren’t pimples? Do you see fine lines of capillaries on the surface that are sensitive to the touch? If yes, you may have rosacea.

Patches of irritated, dry, red to white scaly and crusty skin around the hairline, nose, eyes and cheeks may be caused by a skin disorder called psoriasis. In both cases you will need to consult with a dermatologist. .

With these evaluations, you develop a more effective skin care routine that will help maintain your skin’s health. But remember that your skin type won’t remain constant for long even with the right choice and use of products. As your own body undergoes development, your skin type will change as well. It is recommended that you perform this simple assessment every 4 to 6 months.

With proper attention and care, you can give you skin the right treatment when and how it needs it – something that is far more effective than any repair cream or fancy treatment at a clinic.

Treatment/Therapy:

Anti Aging Procedures

Botox: Botox or botulinum endotoxin-A can produce dramatic anti aging results, similar to surgery, without the devastating side effects. Botox is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It causes a slight paralysis of the muscles around the wrinkles.

This can diminish the appearance of “motion wrinkles,” such as laugh lines and crow’s feet. The procedure to have Botox injected under the skin can be quite costly and it’s effects are only temporary, so it must be repeated several times throughout the year.

Dermabrasion: This is a procedure that utilizes microcrystals or other sanding equipment to scrape away facial skin around the affected area. It is a costly procedure that my actually require a recovery of several weeks.

Laser Resurfacing: Laser surgery is a technique that uses a controlled laser beam to remove the upper layer of damaged skin. It can visibly reduce the appearance of fine line and in come cases, deeper wrinkles. It is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery today. However, it is an invasive surgical procedure that also has risks such as excessive scarring, infection, loss of normal skin pigmentation, skin redness and dryness.

Chemical Peels: As frightening as it seems, chemical peels actually involve applying a chemical substance to your skin that “burns” off the damaged layers. The gentlest type of chemical peel available is the glycolic acid peel that removes dead skin cells from the upper layer of skin only. These treatments are quick and are often referred to as “lunchtime peels,” as they may only require ten to fifteen minutes in the doctor’s office. However, the results of chemical peels are only temporary and the procedure must be repeated frequently.

Anti-Aging Creams And Botox Treatments, Leading The Anti-Aging Pack

With society rapidly becoming more and more into the physical, people are starting to worry over things that haven't bothered them before. What were ordinary lines on their faces before are now wrinkles that they must take care of.

Come to think of, the process of aging is much different now compared to previous decades. This is because of the level of pollution that the skin is exposed to. Sunlight is also much harsher now than before as the ozone layer is thinning.

The aging process is much faster now than before. Wrinkles are also more pronounced. Sunburns and other skin diseases are also more prevalent.

Along with the rapid changes in the aging process comes the different modern methods that are designed to combat aging. Perhaps a result of the supply and demand model, there are perhaps hundreds of procedures that are being done in order to slow down the aging process. There are also thousands of products that are designed to take care of the skin and combat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Among these thousands of products and services, one for each category stands out: Anti-aging creams and Botox injection/facelifts.

Anti-aging creams
One of the most popular preventive “medicines” for aging skin is the anti-aging creams that are widely available on the market. These anti-aging creams are especially formulated with vitamins and chemicals that will help the skin regenerate. Most promote cell renewal, which helps the skin become supple and more youthful looking.

Anti-aging creams are actually dependent on the age range. There are creams that are meant for younger skin while there are those made for men and women on their late 30s and 40s. The older the age group, the stronger the effect of the ingredients.

Facelifts and Botox injection
Although creams may work over time, it may take a while before you can see the actual results. For some, who want instant gratification, surgery and cosmetic procedures are the answer. Most women now are having their faces lifted in various medical clinics. Some are also having botox treatments. Botox is said to be effective in smoothing fine lines in the face.

The product has been so popular that botox parties have become popular. During these parties, people will inject botox treatment in their faces. These parties were actually sanctioned by the government as illegal because of the potential dangers of self-administration.

The ideal anti-aging product to use depends on the condition of the skin but in most cases, the most practical one is the cream. This is because the skin can easily absorb it. There are three types of creams. The first is natural, then herbal and finally those made from artificial ingredients.

The herbal ones and those from natural products are very similar because they both come from plants. The advantage of using one or the other is that studies haven't shown any significant side effects. The only difference is that the other kind has a special ingredient called collagen, which is used when there are a lot of wrinkles on the skin.

People also have the option of using pills to manage anti-aging. The only problem is that these things are expensive. The price range of these costs from $45 to $75 a month.

Those who are experiencing the first signs of aging are advised to consult with a dermatologist before buying it from the store or online. This is because some may have an allergic reaction while others will suffer from its side effects.

Anti-Aging Skin Secrets

HealthNutritionOnline

The skin is the first visible sign of aging. This is why anti-aging products, services and treatments focus on keeping the skin young and youthful. It makes a lot of sense to take care of our skin given that it is the largest organ in our body and it is the canvas that shows the physical manifestation of aging through fine lines and wrinkles. With a few simple steps you can maintain the health and youthfulness of your skin as part of a great anti-aging regimen.

For starters, you'll need to feed your skin. This means that you will have to ensure that you take in the proper nutrients that are essential in preserving your skin's natural elasticity and youthfulness. As children we were taught about the food types that we need to consume for a balanced diet.

These are the "grow", "go" and "glow" foods. The food type especially for the skin fall under the "glow" category and these are fruits and green leafy vegetables. These types of food contain vitamins and minerals that keep our entire body healthy and are especially good for our skin because of the anti-oxidants it contains. These anti-oxidants help reduce the effects of premature aging and help keep our skin young and supple.

Aside from food, you will need to hydrate. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water for males and at least 9 glasses for females is also very beneficial to the body and is especially good for the skin. The water will help flush out toxins in the body and part of this process involves releasing waste through perspiration. So along with drinking lots of water, engage in regular exercise to keep your skin healthy.

Another way to keep your skin young and youthful is by keeping it clean. Exfoliating helps keep the skin clean while washing away dead skin cells that tend to make us look dull. Be sure however to use the appropriate types of exfoliants for the proper parts of the body.

What you use on your body isn't appropriate for your face. Sleep is also an important factor needed to win the anti-aging battle. It is during sleep that our bodies begin to repair the damage done to our tissues during the day. This is why it is very important to get enough sleep to allow our bodies to heal and repair itself. Help the repair of your skin tissues by cleaning and moisturizing your skin before sleeping.

Diet change strategies:

Good Nutrition and Your Complexion

As the old cliché goes, “Health is Wealth.” Hence, it is always important to uphold the value of proper eating and living a healthy lifestyle in order to stay in shape and to be perfectly well.

However, being healthy is not only constrained on having a perfect body. In fact, aside from having a perfect body, being healthy could also mean having a healthy skin as shown in the skin’s complexion.

That is why, most people who are known to be health buffs are also known to be good-looking people. This is because the inner beauty radiates and exudes deep from within, even without the traces of make up.

Nowadays, looking good is not anymore a factor of being vain but is already considered one way of staying healthy. This is because many medical experts are now insisting on the fact that good nutrition is, indeed, an important factor in having a good complexion and image.

In reality, many people are not aware that good nutrition is a great factor in generating a healthy good-looking skin. They only thought that eating the right kind of food would make people healthier and live life longer. What they do not know is that good nutrition is also a big factor in having a good complexion and healthy skin.

Therefore, for people who are not aware why good nutrition is important in maintaining a healthy skin complexion, here are some reasons that they should be aware of.

1. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin A is important in maintaining a healthy skin. A daily dose of vitamin A is proven to be an effective way of reducing the appearance of acne, wrinkles, and other skin problems.

However, care must be properly observed when taking foods rich in vitamin A. Too much intake of this vitamin may result to serious problems like liver diseases.

2. Good nutrition replenishes the lost vitamins and minerals that the human body is not capable of producing. When people are exposed to the sun the skin’s reservoir of vitamin C goes down, and unlike most animals, humans cannot make vitamin C.

Therefore, it is important to reproduce vitamin C by eating foods that are rich in vitamin C. In this way, the skin will be able to combat the harmful effects of the damages caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

3. Eating foods rich in antioxidants is definitely good for the skin. In order for the skin to work against the upshots of oxidants or the free radicals that are manufactured when the body cells burn oxygen in order to generate energy, it is important for the people to eat foods that are rich in antioxidants These foods are the “green, leafy vegetables” like the spinach.

Antioxidants are also present in foods that are rich in carotenoids like beta-carotene. A good example of this is carrots. It can also be present in food supplements such as vitamins E and C.

4. Eating foods rich in fiber can also contribute to good skin complexion. Fiber, or roughage, is composed from the plant’s cell wall material. Whole grains, legumes, citrus fruits, nuts, and vegetables are all good sources of dietary fiber.

On its basic sense, fiber is an example of complex carbohydrate that is relatively essential in the absorption of the other nutrients into the body. Without fiber, some of the nutrients will only be put to waste and will not be consumed by the body. Hence, with fiber, the skin’s complexion will be healthier looking and will even produce healthy glow.

5. For proper growth and production of new skin cells, proteins are the best sources in order to help in this process.

Proteins are chains of amino acids responsible for the skin’s cell growth and maintenance. Protein in foods from meat, poultry, fish, and dairy is called complete protein because it contains essential amino acids necessary for building and maintaining skin cells.

Thus, a properly maintained skin cell will result to a good skin complexion.

Indeed, eating right does not merely produce a healthy body but a healthy skin as well. Hence, people should be more aware of what they are eating because it will surely reflect on their skin’s appearance.

As most people say, “You are what you eat.”

Vitamin & Nutrient Associations

Generally speaking, the immune system begins to decline around age 50 and by age 60 may already be seriously compromised.

If you are over 55, vitamin supplements will help prevent disease even though it may take at least six months to a year to register the improvement. That’s not an excuse to put it off, because the sooner you begin, the better the results. But, you can’t continue to do the steak and eggs or burger and fries thing and think that popping a pill will be a cure-all because it isn’t!

Let’s take a look at weight for instance. If you take in too many calories and gain weight you increase the risk of cancer, heart disease and stroke. But, cutting the calories to either lose or maintain your weight may result in deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. You can replace key vitamins and minerals lost by dieting with carefully selected supplements.

Another challenge is compensating as the body’s systems begin to slow down. As we age, our systems are not working as efficiently as they once were. For example, you don’t have as much stomach acid that helps to get nutrients from food. That means that as much as 40% of the nutrients you ingest may go unused resulting in deficiencies of vitamins D, B6, B12, riboflavin, folate and calcium.

Your body’s system for storing the nutrients isn’t as efficient either because the percentage of body fat increases with age. While your metabolism keeps you alive and healthy, it also produces by products that can be harmful including free radicals and other compounds that cause damage to cells’ DNA and can lead to many of the effects of old age.

As we get older, the body reduces the amount of antioxidants it produces and it will become more difficult to get enough antioxidant protection just from your food. Although you can get most of the nutrients you need from a multi-vitamin, you may want to take extra supplements of certain vitamins and minerals to promote optimum health.

Vitamins and Minerals

There is a dearth of good nutrition on the market, and it is getting increasingly hard to get the necessary vitamins and minerals from what the average American eats. Vitamin supplements may help in this regard.

Scientists are discovering how increasingly important the vitamins C, E, A, K, and B complex are to skin health. Being able to absorb these vitamins through diet and supplements will improve skin health a great deal.

As a cautionary measure, however, make certain that you are not exceeding the recommended ranges. You can get too much of a good thing. It is also advisable to consult with your physician regarding any supplemental regimen as some supplements may have adverse interaction with certain medications you are taking.

Water

Dehydration results in scaly, coarse, and unhealthy skin. Water also helps flush out toxins in the body. These toxins could cause a variety of skin conditions and could very well spell skin doom for most people.

Aloe Vera has been around for centuries and is obviously nothing new. However what used to be thought as just a cure for sunburn and cuts is now being used for acne. If you read back into history Queen Cleopatra touted the use of aloe vera as her most important beauty secret but for some reason it seemed to get lost in the shuffle of new acne treatments that are much more costly and invasive. Now though aloe vera is shown to make an excellent zits treatment once again.

Many people often use aloe vera for clear skin by the use of skin care products that contain this powerful source. But it doesn’t necessarily have to come from the plant or in facial washes. Aloe Vera juice is now just as popular and quite frankly deserves a place in your refrigerator as well. Whole leaf Aloe Vera Juice contains many vitamins and minerals that you need for not only healthy and clear skin, but for a healthy body.

Containing calcium chromium, copper, potassium, iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, sodium, folic acid, niacin, as well as Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E - aloe vera juice is perfect for your acne treatment. This is a long list of vital vitamins and nutrients that are the exact ingredients that you would include in a natural skin product, but yet you can simply just drink it to get everything you need in one 8oz glass.

Aloe vera juice detoxifies your body by helping with the digestion and elimination of waste as well as the killing of bacteria that brings on the acne and acne breakouts. By getting rid of the harmful toxins you have much clearer skin that will lessen blemishes, general acne as well as other skin problems.

Your body needs complete nutrition to promote healthy skin. There are a number of vitamins and minerals that are powerful antioxidants capable of flushing out free radicals and toxins from your body.

A healthy liver functions well to cleanse our blood of the dirt from excess hormones. And with our blood clean, consequently, our skin's condition will improve. That's the herbs way of accomplishing the natural acne treatment process.

Some even have antibacterial effects and promote immunity, both of which are important in keeping your pores clean of clogging toxins and in healing the damaged skin tissue.

It is important to also ensure you also have ‘outer nutrition’ to support your skin health. Using natural anti-aging skincare programs is probably the best way of maintaining a healthy and clear skin but to get best results you need to also establish a healthy nutrition routine!

We wish you well in your search for solutions to this problem and your movement towards better health in all areas.

Natural Beauty Skincare

With new research, new products and new skin protection advice popping up all the time, it is hard to figure out the best things to do to improve and protect your skin.

A skin care program is the combination of skin care products and a routine that will be most beneficial to the skin. You will first need to consider your diet and type of life-style since these two factors play an important role in the health of a person's skin.

Acne Vulgaris
There are many different types of blemishes that you can get on your face. They are all generally called acne but when it comes to treatment, it is important to know exactly what is going on with your skin.

The most common type of acne is Acne Vulgaris which literally means 'common acne.' This type of acne can cause blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts.

whiteheads
Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are follicles that are filled with the same as blackheads, but have only a microscopic opening to the skin surface. Since the air cannot reach the follicle, the material is not oxidized, and remains white.

Blackheads
There are many different types of blemishes that you can get on your face. They are all generally called Acne but when it comes to treatment, it is important to know exactly what is going on with your skin.

An open comedo, or blackhead, occurs when the plug enlarges and pushes through the surface of the skin. Its dark appearance is not due to dirt, but rather to a build up of the dark pigment of the skin called melanin. Blackheads are also a type of inflammatory acne.

Acne Scars
Most people with mild or moderate acne will recover from the condition without serious scarring. In cases of severe acne, however, scarring is almost inevitable. But don't give up hope -- new acne treatments can minimize scarring and existing scars can be removed with a variety of techniques.

People experience different types of scarring from acne, and every person is left with different facial topography. Therefore, acne scar treatment must be addressed on a case by case basis. No single treatment is right for everyone. You and your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon will have to decide what is right for your type of acne scarring.

Age Spots
Liver Spots
These skin spots are sometimes called Liver Spots and are flat brown spots that can appear anywhere on the body’s skin as it ages. Most spots appear on the face, neck, and hands.

These brown spots in themselves are harmless, but they can be a sign of more serious underlying problems. They are the result of a buildup of wastes known as lipofuscin accumulation, a Byproduct of free radical damage in skin cells.

The Art of Choosing The Right Anti-Aging Products

In choosing what is the best anti-aging product for your skin, it is a must that you conduct some research in order to take a peek into various anti-aging products available on the market that can help you. Here are some guidelines in choosing the right anti-aging products for you.

1. Know your skin type first. You can do this by consulting a dermatologist or by conducting a self-test. Knowing your skin type is very important in choosing a anti-aging product because this will determine what products and recommended brands and ingredients that are safe for your skin.

2. Opt for anti-aging products that contain soluble Vitamin A, C, and E. When choosing any anti-aging product, it is best that they contain water-based Vitamin A, C, and E because these are the most effective ingredients that can help reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles, crow's feet and other fine lines.

3. Choose anti-aging products that have a high concentration of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Consider choosing products that contain the antioxidants for the skin such as Ascorbyl Acid or Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A or beta carotene and Flavonoids because these can help you to achieve firm and younger looking skin while nourishing, strengthening and moisturizing your aging skin.

4. Look for anti-aging products that contain fine crystals. Fine crystals or ingredients of the same properties can help exfoliate the skin while removing dead skin cells that contribute to the skin's aging. Anti-aging products that have fine crystals can help remove dead skin cells that reduce the formation of lines. These anti-aging products may include wrinkle erasers, facial and body scrubs, toners, eye creams, various cleansers, hydrators, and moisturizers.

5. Choose anti-aging products that can be applied or used not only on the face but on other parts of the body as well. It is important that you choose anti-aging products that can do wonders for the neck and hands because these are the parts of the body where early signs of aging are visible.
